Coding

Robotics For Kids

In 2021, our district invested in professional development to support computer science. Since that time, I have been refining our use of the Finch robots and kids are engaged. The goal is to infuse computer science lessons into library classes and choice time, but also inspire classroom teachers to check out the robots for additional learning in the classroom. Our art teacher uses the robots every year to create shape based art that is super creative.

Kids can code

Every year in library we push ourselves a little further in our knowledge of computer science. At first it was an equalizer for students. Students who normally found school challenging or perhaps not challenging enough were engaging in coding activities and teaching other students. Eight years later, kids are pushing me for more challenging tasks including access to Python. Inspired by the FabLearn conference, 2019 became the year of coding for the good of others. Students were challenged to see technology not just as fun, but as a way to improve quality of life.
